Are Electric Cars Really Sustainable

Okay this superbus really looks fancy, but its not very practical if it needs plugged in every hour, no matter how fast it goes. As a public service vehicle it will likely spend most of its time trundling slowly along in the city. Though perhaps this type is destined for motorway journeys. So it can zoom between recharge points where you will have to have overnight accomodation while it recharges. Or everyone could decant onto a ready charged one waiting. It all seems so far off in the future - the versatility of electric cars.

So will electric cars actually save you money?

A number of elctric cars are ready for mass manufacture. One of the best specifications comes from the Ford Focus Electric which will have a range of 100 miles and recharge in 3-4 hours. With fuel consumption at about 106mpg, and the need for a home built recharge station does this really stack up as sustainable?
